This training will develop your coaching competence and practice by learning all the practical skill you need balanced with coaching methodology and theory, applied skill, sound business knowledge, and demonstrated capability without the requirement to write or submit lengthy academic and largely theoretical essays that have little bearing on how you effectively coach in practice.

To gain the Association for Coaching Accredited Certificate in Coach Training you will evidence your efficacy and coaching capability through live coaching practice, in session observations and participation, logged and evidenced coaching hours outside of the workshop programme, record of your self study and CPD, reflective practice and two short written practical assignments.

The assignments are structured in such a way that they can be used as coaching tools that will help you further increase your coaching practice. There is no requirement to write essays about theory.

This course is about coaching in practice and we have only one objective at DNA Coach and that is:

The Live Workshops

During workshop one we review what coaching is and what it’s not alongside other disciplines. You will be introduced to directive and non-directive principles of coaching. You will discover ‘in-credible’ coaching to know why you coach, what the opportunities are for coaching and the benefits of regular coaching and feedback in business and organisational settings. You’ll be introduced to the coaching approach where we define key coaching attributes, beliefs, and behaviours. And lastly, we will practice coaching by introducing the DNA of Coaching model and action planning.

During workshop two we will use your Personal Profile Analysis (gifted as one of the programme bonuses) and cross reference it with the DNA Coach Coaching Styles Inventory to learn about your preferred coaching style and how to coach others with a different style to match their needs. We will also dive into coaching conversations using the ‘Coaching Path’ framework and how to develop deep rapport with your coachees. And lastly, we will practice ‘curious coaching’ by introducing you to Sir John Whitmore’s GROW model and how to use this conversational model to help your coachees make change and move forward.

During workshop three we take coaching conversations even further and develop your global listening skills so that you become aware of what’s being said and what’s not being said in a coaching conversation with an intro to the Big 6 Listening Skills. You will work through a coaching scenario, listening intently to what has been shared by the coachee and review poor coaching questions and you will work to reframe these to aid your coachee toward a positive progress action. And finally, we will take the great work of Michael Bungay Stanier and his 7 Coaching Habit questions and use them to practice your coaching skills with a live co-coaching session.

During workshop four we introduce the coaches toolkit where you learn how to formally contract for clients ranging from contracting with internal colleagues on a one-to-one basis to larger scale external organisational or business coaching opportunities. You will also learn how to recontract in the moment should the need arise. You will learn about collaborative coaching and the power of language used by you as the coach and that of the coachee to become unstuck. Lastly, we will work through the DNA Coach ‘Wheel of Whatever’ coaching tool and demonstrate its flexibility of use for absolutely any coaching topic or scenario. Coaching Assignment One is released.

During workshop five we will look at coaching for performance in the workplace and how to engage in future focused feedback to build confidence and success. You will also work on your own plan to create a coaching culture in teams and organisations and how to utilise coaching (and a blend of other learning methodologies) in response to a typical coaching request case study and apply this to your business. Lastly, we will work though the DNA Coach reframe model of FEAR to enable your coachee to Focus on Excellence, Action and Results.

During our final workshop you will learn how to calculate return on investment of coaching both from an internal employee perspective and for those that are external consultants. You will learn about Emotional Intelligence and how to coach in this area and importantly how to strengthen your own emotional intelligence . You will learn how to use conversational coaching tools using the goodie box looking at topics of Team, Resilience and Self-Care Coaching.

Student Feedback

Joanna Lupton
HR and H&S Manager at Technimark

This certificate course was both informative and inspiring to understand and practice new skills backed up with a variety of academic models and the opportunity to connect with like minded business professionals who were also on a similar journey of self improvement.

Laura’s energy and passion for coaching is contagious, my confidence grew week on week as I dared to step out of my comfort zone and experience real growth by putting my new gained skills into practice. I wish I could have an army of coaches in the workforce, now that really would be an unfair advantage.

Alan Scott
Learning & Development Consultant at ASC Ltd.

I joined Laura’s certified coaching course as she’s one of the few ‘Professional Coaches’ I trust. Highly qualified and with a proven track record. I joined the course looking to add a qualification to this area of our business and was very impressed with the structure, dynamic, supporting materials, delivery method and support. It was a very well constructed programme that made the subject matter easy to digest, develop and deliver both within practice sessions and with my clients. Aside from the formal benefits of the course I have also developed more confidence in coaching a wider range of clients from various industries and backgrounds.

I would highly recommend this programme for anyone wishing to add to or improve their current coaching approach and results. Easy to follow, comprehensive, well thought out and a pleasure to be part of.

Aurora Kerr
Head of Human Resources and Organisational Development, SAGE Gateshead

When I started the engaged coach practitioner course I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had no experience of formal coaching. Laura made me feel extremely welcome and part of the team within the cohort, and the information and support to becoming a coach was extremely valuable. After each session I could see myself making small changes and using some of the techniques I had learned almost instantly, both in my professional and personal life. I also enjoyed the experience of being matched with a cohort of the same people throughout the course. I didn’t know anyone when I signed up to the course, and Laura worked to engage everyone and mixed us up during the weeks to benefit from each others varied coaching styles and lived experiences.

I found the course one of the most beneficial courses I have completed in the past few years. I found the pace and materials, along with the support from Laura fantastic. Laura’s delivery style was friendly and personable and her energy and enthusiasm along with her expertise made it an enjoyable experience I couldn’t recommend it higher.

Why Become a Professional Qualified Coach?

No matter which stage of life or career you find yourself in, the benefits of transformational coaching are wide ranging and can leave a lasting positive impact. Working as a coach can help you to develop both as an individual and in your career, opening the door towards increased confidence, performance and more. Individual and Business Coaching is rewarding and a fulfilling career choice. As a Coach you will help people get what they most want in their personal and professional life.

Coaching is all about people and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to coaching. As a coach you can help others improve the quality of their lives and achieve their goals. Many of our students have always wanted to make a difference in this world and in their workplaces. By taking a person centred approach you will learn how to encourage your coachee to share what’s on their mind, you’ll learn to listen without judgement and help your coachee to find answers for themselves through asking powerful questions.

The coach’s role is to nurture, empower an inspire people to perform and improve in accordance with their ever-changing needs and impulses. It is imperative coaches make a concerted effort to get to know every person they interact with and know understand what drives them to want to make continued progress. Coaching is a way to make a difference in others’ lives.

Coaching is an essential skill for workplace leaders. Companies are moving away from traditional command-and-control practices and toward something very different: a model in which managers and leaders give support and guidance rather than instructions, and employees learn how to adapt to constantly changing environments in ways that unleash fresh energy, innovation, and commitment.

Change occurs one person at a time. As a coach your job is to assist someone else with making a change. Change is constant in life and work. Coaching is not an opportunity to instil and enforce change, instead you’ll learn how to aid coachees to discover, discuss, and even improve new ways of working, being and doing. Coaching can help people transition through the constant change in today’s world by removing obstacles, leveraging, and developing strengths, sharing information, defining approaches, and ultimately finding the path to move forward.

Coaching is about partnering with coachees in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The coaching process can help improve a person’s outlook on work and life, while improving leadership skills and unlocking potential. As a coach your task is to help people break through from one level of performance to another and to help individuals change patterns that are holding them back from achieving their potential.

Instead of dishing out advice, a good coach will ask exploratory, open ended questions and listen with genuine care and concern. You will learn that the way to do that isn’t by setting targets for them and fixing their problems; it’s by coaching with compassion. A lot of us have natural coaching skills. Asking questions, active listening, offering observations – these are all things a lot of us do in everyday conversations. You might coach someone without even realising. You’ll learn how to refine and increase these skills and learn specific techniques to help people raise their self awareness.

The demand for coaching is growing in the workplace. Businesses are realising more and more what coaching is and what it can offer. Personal development and mental health in the workplace are more widely talked about than ever before. Coaching as a daily habit has many benefits so that we are enabled to take advantage of an opportunity or challenge. Coaching in the workplace is not something that should be wheeled in and wheeled out as performance management tool, instead it should be an everyday practice and one that is provided by all levels of leadership in a business.
